My Mothers Greatest Gift
My mother gave me the gift of reading. When I was young she read to me and gave me books that some would say were a bit too grown up for me. First she gave me a Mary Higgins Clark book when I was about 11 and I fell in love with the mystery. And then she gave me V.C. Andrews and oh gasp! the scenes in those books just about took my breath away. I still remember sitting on the floor in the book isle while my mother shopped drinking my can of Fresca and trying to pick out a book to buy. I had my head in a book most of the time even when we were driving. My mother always supported my book habit and bought me so many R.L. Stein Fear Street books I think I may have almost broke the bank. I Love You Mom you gave me the greatest gift a mother could give other than life and love...you gave me a life long passion for the written word. And I wanted to say thank you.
So to my readers I have a question for you..were you given the gift of reading or did you come by it yourself ? Did the written word speak to you as you walked by the book shelves? What was the book or author that started your love? I'd love to hear your stories.

E-Reader Blues
Do you ever get the e-reader blues? I do. There are times when I just miss the feel of a real book in my hands, and the smell of the pages as they turn. But e-books are so much cheaper and better for the planet I tell myself over and over. And that's when I have to go to a used book store (a dying breed) or a library and just look around and thumb through the novels for that welcome sensation of literally curling up with a good book and getting lost in another world.
